California State Social Science Standards

California is one of only 13 states that include an economics course as a high school graduation requirement.  In addition, an economics strand runs through the entire CA History/Social Science curriculum from Kindergarten through Grade 11.

Grades Kindergarten – Eighth

Standards related to economics have been extracted from each grade’s content standards.

Grades Tenth – Eleventh

Standards related to economics have been extracted from both the 10th grade World and 11th grade United States history content standards.

Grade Twelve

In California, 12th grade is only one place where economics is taught independently of the other social sciences.  The specific Economic standards have been extracted from the overall 12th grade history/social science content standards
