Judge’s comment: You incorporated primary resources into your analysis that clarified the cost of living in a society without the interstate highway system. You also did a nice job of examining the political concerns that were supportive of this initiative.

Title: The Fireside Chats: Compelling Collaboration Between People and Politicians
Judge’s comment: The use of Fireside chats to argue for the New Deal was an innovative usage of technology by the state to enhance its ability to reach out to the citizenry. It is interesting that effective communication can shape people’s perceptions about economic reality.

Title: The Pulpit of the Street
Judge’s Comment: This piece ties together all sorts of interesting economic phenomena: The role of public education and its funding for a stable society; the failure to integrate a community into ordinary economic opportunities and the creative response of that community; and the questioning of the legitimacy of state police powers are front and center in debates about the current structure of our society.

Judge’s Comment: Your documentary was well executed and informative. The argument of your project is that centralized control of the media and a government sponsored message stimulated public outrage and led to widespread protests.
